He holds a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (1980). He earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in 1985 and 1992, respectively, from the Graduate Program in Engineering (COPPE) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (currently the Alberto Luiz Coimbra Institute for Graduate Studies and Research in Engineering). He has been a faculty member at the Federal University of Uberlândia (UFU) since 1983, where he reached the rank of Full Professor. He has served as Program Coordinator, Department Head, and Director of the School of Chemical Engineering at UFU. He teaches in the subfields of Transport Phenomena, Separation Processes, and the Use of Radioisotopes, having supervised dozens of undergraduate research projects, over fifteen master's dissertations, and five doctoral theses. He has published around sixty journal articles and over one hundred sixty papers in national and international conference proceedings. His research interests include sedimentation, cyclone and hydrocyclone operations, and gas and liquid filtration, among others. He also served as UFU’s Director of Planning, chairing the Expansion, REUNI, and Physical Space Committees from 2009 to 2012.
